    • Total VP on a map

On the North America and World maps, there are clearly not enough points for 2 coalitions to gain victory conditions.
But how many TOTAL victory points are on the 2 maps? It seems there should be enough points for more than 1 player to gain the solo victory condition points on the world map, but not enough for 2 full 5-person coalitions.
On the North America map it doesn't seem that there are enough total points for 2 players to get solo victory condiitons. It seems on that map there is a definite point at which a second place player will ABSOLUTELY have to go to war with the 1st place player to prevent that player from winning, or choose to concede the map. Does anyone have a good guess on this?
    • Something else to consider: the total VP of every map continues to rise as the cities all gain in population, so, that by day 30, there are a lot more VP total than on day 1

something to consider is solo is supposed to be hard
The three best guys teaming is THE way to go

So, on day 24 of the N. America map we had 3131 total VP (based on adding all victory points together from the diplomacy screen). Solo VC is 1700 and a full team of 3 has a VC of 2550 (IIR). So that means if you, as an opponent, stay below 600 VP you can make an argument to the leading coalition to leave you alone and find their path to victory elsewhere. However, as a player going against a coalition, if you snatch up 600 points you have ensured yourself a showdown against a coalition for end game.
Alternatively, if you're soloing and working towards a solo win and looking to grab opponents, you don't absolutely have to bash horns against the next 2 or 3 goats on the hill. You can plot out paths to victory that don't include their 200 VPs as long as they don't have a combined 1400 points.
It's a war game, but it's also a victory game. Sometimes the best wars are ones you manage to avoid fighting, even in this game.

On the big map, we have 6221 points on day 30 (same method). If the leading coalition needs 5550 to win, then you can make a compelling argument to leave you well enough alone as long as you remain below 700 or so points.
On the other hand, if you're soloing your way to 1850 points you can plot out a path to victory as long as the leading coalition hasn't snatched up more than 4370 or so points. Crawling around in the underbrush is an excellent way to survive sometimes.

It's a way to go, but not always THE way to go. The best guys don't always have the highest ranks.
