I've always used western and then heavily researched marines and main battle tanks which is pretty good for attacking but it leaves undefended against planes and ships when I try to move via sea or am fighting. This also leaves me heavily unprotected when I'm being attacked. What's the best strategy for picking a doctrine and what troops to mobilize?

Most folks who've played against tough opponents will tell you that using melee-combat (not indirect-fire artillery) ground troops as your main units, and especially using Tanks & Marines, is a terrible idea.
You probably should sort out that part of the learning curve, before worrying about fine-tuning your playing-style by picking one doctrine or another.
Also, I'm sure that if you want to learn about doctrines you can do it investing your time into using Google to search this forum. -
study the doctrine overview and thn pick what favors you playstyle.
its little bonus but sometimes it helps.

here my favorite bonus
europam;
aagun , helicooter defense
td, more hp and damage
sf more hp
eastern
sam more damage
choppers early research
mobile art more damage
western
anti tank helis more damage
so as you see western has little to offer to me. especially when I use elite choppers@Dorado If you Close the Forum and move everything to Discord you will lose my Feedback for sure. The post was edited 1 time, last by kurtvonstein ().

In terms of air troops, Western is the only doctrine that gives more damage or health to troops as well as early research. Surely western is best?
The attack helicopter for example, has +20% armored damage as well as early research -

Best Doctrine would probably be Europe simply because they don’t get any penalty to research.I am The Baseline for opinions -
But if I wanted a bonus for air, the only option is western. I prefer to focus on two types of troops and heavily research them. Marines are nice but I'm open to change. I used to do tanks but I keep getting burned by ships and planes so I am looking for alternatives.

Western gives you’re ASf early research and More damage, like a lot more damage.
