I notice some players who build roads a lot. But what’s the point? Is a slight unit speed increase worth the resources?
Roads, Why Should I Build Them?

I think if you’re a large country like Russia it makes sense, but otherwise I don’t think you should

But I mean small countries like Germany or Vietnam.

Although with Vietnam you have to put all your units in that skinny stretch, so you might wanna build some there

Many people build them to get 2 econ points added to their XP per road.

Roads have tactical purposes & especially useful for artillery play & maneuvering mountains but if the people you reference are spamming them everywhere, especially end game, why else would they be doing it except for xp? cos it looks pretty? -

So it builds up? That's fantastic. Is it the easiest/quickest building to spam at game's end?

He appeared to be interested in accumulating XP quickly and easily, not accumulating buildings quickly/easily.
That's why I gave the answer I did. -

I Play with Chile and his geography its very tricky. Always I made one route for crosses the mountain and cut Argentina in half directly by the meddle . In the first week you don't have resources to conquer quickly and make or cap an airfield so you need speed reinforces from the other side of the mountains. And at the same time Bolivia and Peru have plans too... Rigth in the second week Brazil wants Argentinian airfield too and your mechanized infantry don't like plains, so they take all the road crossing the mountains, so I make another route for gain extra hours of travel ( included heavy wounded who comeback to a hospital)

Kind of , because you don't have deep defense and you have flat terrains . A single movement you can cross the country and in a few hours you take a big part of. So you need take initiative , that means cross the mountains in the north and defend middle and south or over protect north and go for Argentina ( my favorite tactic) Defending its interesting since you have a big wall and enormous ocean, but the ocean you really need have a deep space in order to keep away subs whit long range missiles.
