How does the forum ranking system work? How many posts/likes does it take to get to the next rank? Just out of curiosity.

Yes I know - but I am busy defending the forum against Korean Spammers..."Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion." Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf

Here you go:
Guess I will still need to write a few posts before being made "General"..."Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion." Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf -
Thanks for the info! By the way I saw those spammers at one point, the whole top section of my dashboard was filled with random Korean stuff. I tried putting them through google translate but I just got a lot of nothing about casinos. Maybe it was some kind of code? They never replied to my comment.

At one point during the weekend I was playing whack(ban)-a-mole with these guys while they were re-registering and spamming all over again.
Perma-banned them for the time being. Let's hope it holds

Looks like it didn't XP *sigh*. Gonna try to talk to them.

Thanks for the effort tinydragon! I saw your reply to one of the spammers in another thread, and as you hadn't received a reply, deleted the thread since many of the IP addresses we are receiving suggest that they are automated. We've got a few more tricks up our sleeves that we are implementing at the moment.

Dang. So why don't we have reCAPTCHA or something similar?
-
They were working around it recently. We have implemented an alternative which is working at this point.
-
Nice! I hope it keeps working! Tell all the guys in the department that dealt with this good job!

Here's another question, how does the point system in the members tab work? I can see that you get ranked by how many posts you've done but how does one get points? Because at one point I was tied with a mod who had the exact same amount of posts and likes as me but he had a hundred or so extra points (not saying I comment for ranking, that would be stupid). Do you get extra points for being a mod or something? How does this work?
-
Hmm, just thought of something. Do you get points when you rank up or do you stay at the same number of points you were at when you get promoted?
-
For your first question, the answer is threads. Creating threads give you 5 points, but appear as a post on your ranking. Likes and Posts give 1 point each.
When you are promoted, I don't believe that you get additional points, but I'll need a dev or someone who's been promoted to verify it, as I am also still at the rank of Private. -
What I was curious about was someone had the exact same amount of threads and likes as me but was a mod and had quite a few more points than me which is what made me curious about the point system
-
Then I don't know the answer. Maybe mods and devs do get more points...
-
The discrepancy in points could be because of the changes made to the points system a few months ago. We lowered the awarded points not to encourage spamming or other abusive methods of earning the points. Also, no, all forum members get the same points, I hope this clears things up.Dorado Games
