I am not a new player and I have played the game for three weeks now. What I want to know is what are the political views in the game that you can see and why do they matter?

Err - this thread actually was about the political overlays in the game UI.
And yes you are right - we are changing the AI because it's inhibiting free play and not behaving as designed.
Concerning your question about the political overlays:
- Toggle A (default) shows you your own nation in green, friendly nations in shades of green, potential enemies (embargoing you) in yellow, and enemies at war in red
- Toggle B shows you all playable nations with an associated national color (eg. US is blue) and non-player countries in gray (eg. Hungary)
Furthermore we have the new terrain view as well as the well known morale view to help you get an overview of what's happening where."Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion." Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf - Toggle A (default) shows you your own nation in green, friendly nations in shades of green, potential enemies (embargoing you) in yellow, and enemies at war in red
