The year is 1990.
The cold war is at it's end.
It's the end of an era - or perhaps the beginning of a new one.
Welcome to the CoN: 1990s RP
This RP seeks to offer an in-depth experience of the 1990s. The RP will have at least one 'dungeon master,' who will help determine when uprisings happen, popular support for an individual, and announce when natural disasters happen. The 'dungeon master(s)' will be completely fair and try to maintain a high degree of historical accuracy. Unlike many other Roleplays, this one will also provide opportunities to advance your nation's tech tree-within reason, of course.
Here's a look at what to expect from the major powers in the RP:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
If (or rather when) the Soviet Union falls, the United States will be the only superpower left. It will be free to expand it's influence throughout the rest of the globe with minimal competition. By the time the Russians can recover, they'll be playing catch-up on the world stage. Unfortunately, this future prosperity will come at a cost. American expansion may lead to wars abroad in order to preserve economic interests; wars which the populace may not support. If the United States fails in these wars, expect dissent. If the body count rises too high, expect dissent. Americans don't want to fight-not unless they're given a reason.
The United States will inevitably have to deal with terrorists -both domestic and foreign- during the next decade. The US will have to make sure these radical movements don't gain to much momentum.
The Cold War, for all it's downsides, was a stabilizing aspect in American Politics. Both parties were united under the goal to stop communism, and protect America. Now, things are different. Without anything uniting them, party ideologies will split farther apart than they have in decades, leading to a drastic shift in American politics, and, if the situation gets out of hand, dissent.

SOCIALIST FEDERAL REPUBLICS OF YUGOSLAVIA
Yugoslavia is a country on the verge of collapse. In our timeline, Yugoslavia collapsed in the 1990s. This can change. In 1991, Yugoslavia will devolve into civil war, this is inevitable. What can be changed is the outcome. Will Yugoslavia peacefully dissolve, like the USSR, or will it manage to preserve itself through military might? If it does survive, regional differences which led to the war in the first place may lead to future unrest.
Keeping the Americans out of the war will be a struggle. If the Soviet Union falls, there's nothing stopping the United States from getting involved. Any acts of 'ethnic cleansing' should drive the United States even closer to war, and American involvement will undoubtedly be used to gain favor in the middle east.
Allies will be in short supply. Even if Yugoslavia manages to preserve itself, the West will still undoubtedly be the victors in the cold war, and Yugoslavia will be left playing catch up. This will likely lead to conflict later on.

UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS
Like Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. Unlike Yugoslavia, the threat of nuclear weapons will ward off American involvement. Over the last few years, Gorbachev has made reforms to help improve the Soviet economy and the standards of living. These reforms failed. Now, Soviet citizens are even more disillusioned with the party than ever before. It's easier for capitalist influences to enter the union, and the Kremlin is losing influence over it's satellite states. For once, the people are showing their true feelings - and their feelings are anti-Soviet.
To survive, the Soviet Union needs to reinvigorate Soviet patriotism. If not, it may need to use military might to quell uprisings, or worse, civil war. Even then, the country will be vulnerable to coups. If fighting does break out, the Soviet Union will be in no position to help it's allies.
Alternatively, the USSR could dissolve peacefully. The struggle then will be to keep influence over former soviet satellite states. This 'hard reset' will allow a new Russian state to abandon communism, make reforms previously impossible, and reset domestic and international politics.

*Note: This is just a teaser so far. I'm done writing for now, but I'll expand this thread to include game rules, tech trees (once they're all done), the discord chat, and details on the other major countries. If you're interested in joining, please write 1-3 paragraphs on the country you want to play as. Some countries are taken, so I'll tell you if they're available or not. Once I write a complete list of game rules and the tech tree I'll send them to you so you can read them. This RP is still in the early stages, so I don't have an estimate on when it will start.
