I was wondering if spies are really useful or not. Some players told me that having spies is a waste of money. I would like to know if the information they give you is interesting or not. Can your enemies discover them? I think it is an interesting topic but people talked to me badly about spies. Can anyone share his opinion about them?

Spies are useful but in my opinion impossible to sustain with actual money production.
Money being so much critical, i think there is nearly no chances any player will prefer a spy to "one more strike fighter" or "one more artillery", until very late in the game.Running an online alliance is pretty much like running a small company, except you need to find other way than money to keep your employees productive. May they play or work, they are humans. -
spies are costly and even with a large country, money production is limited. If the market worked better and you could convert resources to cash more efficiently, then I would say there would be more opportunity for spies. I have used them with great success on a far away enemy that I needed to see if an IBCM would reach safely, but I have not tried military sabotage for fear of alerting the enemy and loosing my investment to counter spies. In Call of War, I always used to set 5-15 spies on an enemy just before attacking and there was a reasonable chance I would reveal all enemies. Does anyone know if that could work here if you were blessed with cash?

In call of war, spies were essential to learn what the enemy was fighting with, giving me the ability to build the counter units. It also helped with shared intelligence to keep smaller allies, allied with me, a benefit per se of being allied with me. I find in CoN, it is damn near impossible to have spies."For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?" -

I had spies, but with some recent updates I have found it is difficult to even obtain the money necessary to recruit a spy.

The spies must be cheaper and also the Actions from the spies. Annother Suggestion: every Nation get 1 spy free at begin of a game.„Morgen, ihr Luschen!“ --- „Morgen, Chef!“ (Ausbilder Schmidt alias Holger Müller bei der Arbeit)

With the whole 'one free spy' thing would that include the upkeep? Because they could start you with a spy but the upkeep if it was still there could hurt noobs who don't know about spies or how to use them. I can see many potential glitches in the purchase of spies too resulting from such a thing.

Yeah, the cost is at the dollar amount of CoW but the economy is scaled down a factor of about 10. The spy fees would be inline if they were scaled down by knocking a zero off. In CoW I would budget 4 hours of money or one sixth of my income to spy's. I could recruit at least one after capturing a capital, grow and keep the spy."For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?" -

Bugs come with every update, but usually are sorted out by the devs after a short while.
