These past weeks we have been working on other soon to be announced features, but part of the work we've been doing touches up on special units who you will be able to mobilise and use to your strategic advantage. Therefore I'd like to officially introduce you to: Officers. These Special units will lead your troops into battle helping you and your units in the process of specialised campaigns.
For this entry in our developer diary series, I'd like to show you a sneak peek of the graphical work which is being done and what you can expect in this regard. Portraits will allow you to easily identify the unique officers, and any information which is relative to them (doctorine, specialisation). The portraits infuse character into these special units, giving you a better idea of who they are, where they are coming from, and what they are here to do.
In addition to the portraits, these units will need to be represented ingame, and we have some awesome assets being worked on in this regard. These units can be identified within a stack through the special ingame Model that they provide, so that you can easily identify them at a glance. Be warned though, just as much as they appeal to you, they will strike the attention of your opponent/s, so be sure to give them adequate backup.
In addition to Officers, we have been working on 64 Player Maps which provide a new challenge to your play style and strategic/tactical planning. Rivers! You will need to consider these aspects to the map design when you are planning an offensive campaign, or deciding for defensive locations.
Without giving too much away, our team has been working in all areas of the game to deliver a consistent, refreshing, experience. Like you we agree that CoN needed some fresh blood in the arena, especially if they can provide character and flesh out tactical/strategic gameplay further. You can look forward to more information in the coming weeks and later diaries.
