I have had on several occasions had my troops waiting in a allied city or province with terrain advantage for defending to wait for aproaching enemy hordes. The battle is in my advantage in the DEFENSE. However when i come back online i see my forces are attacking instead. The enemy forces ignore mine and take the province anyways and then my forces attack them. War declaration is already made prior. This only happens when i try to defend an ally. Any idea on how to make it a defensive battle or how to fix? (I should have put this in Questions and anwsers forum my bad )
Why dont my forces defend on ally territory?

are you also at war with the attacker ? If not your units will not attack as you would be at peace with them ."There are only two types of aircraft — fighters and targets."

Please note: Our game does not have NATO Clause 5 or anything alike. Meaning that even though you are allied (in a coalition) with a friend, his enemy will not automatically be your enemy.
This is both realistic as well as helpful in curbing escalating war situations. In order to open hostilities you need to either war declare on him, or simply attack his units.

I know this is a different situation but has anymore thought been given to coastline protection and how navel ships react to ships from nations that you are not currently at war with? I think it would be more realistic if you could set your ships to attack any ship approaching your coastline. Like a general defense button.

As i stated above, war declaration has been made prior. Thank-you for the response!
