    • STRIKE FIGHTER UPDATE 170405

      Dear Players,

First of all, thank you once again for your continued efforts in identifying bugs and glitches as you come across them, your insights are invaluable to the team and crucial to the development of Conflict of Nations.

Today we present you with the overhauled Strike Fighter Tree. You will notice that, as the final tier of the Russian Strike Fighter tree, we have swapped out the Russian SU-34 for the semi-stealthy SU-35 Multi-Role, and completing the trio of the high-end, semi-stealthy U.S. Strike Fighters, we have added the F15-Silent Eagle.

Additionally, we have swapped the Gripen out of the European Stealth Air Sup, replacing it with the German MBB Lampyridae a.k.a. The Firefly (check out the Wikipage on this truly interesting prototype).

In the coming weeks, Semi-Stealth technology will be improved; but essentially, and similar to true stealth, certain radars will not pick them up. They will however, be targetable by Anti-Air, so don’t get too overconfident.

      The Dorado Team

      NEW MODELS
      • Added the F15 Silent Eagle to the U.S. Strike Fighter branch
      • Added the SU-35 Super Flanker to the R.U. Strike Fighter branch
      • Added the MBB Lampyridae/Firefly Stealth Air Sup to the E.U. tech tree

    • Basically flying cannons / tank killers. A10 they literal build the plane around the cannon which can fire like 4000 rds per min (each rd size of armor piercing coke cans). but thing only holds 1700 rds so less than 30 sec of firing per sorte. So when see in action they are diving at target and burst fire for 3 or 4 secs.

with f-35 and drones not sure if really needed IRL as with slow speed need air superiority locked down or would be dead ducks against any fighter jet. A10s have to fly pretty low so relative easy to shoot down with AA.

Really a cold war relic (most built in 70s / 80s) but useful in dessert warfare in mid east / afgan with enemies having limited air defenses.

Is that why they don't get shot down and the Army is begging the Air Force to keep them in service? uh
Because they only come in when all enemy aircraft have been eliminated and/or no-fly zone imposed. And its congress holding up retirement not the Army. Its usefulness of flying tank destroyers have passed; Even if not enemy aircraft A10s can not operate anywhere near areas with manpads; IADs; etc. slow huge radar cross section is sitting duck in modern warfare.

"The service has long sought to retire the aging Warthog, which USAF officials argue would offer limited battlefield value in a pitched great-power conflict with Russia or China and is holding up funds that could go toward valuable next-generation platforms. “If it doesn’t threaten China, why are we doing it?” Kendall said at the Reagan National Defense Forum. Kendall singled out the advancing age of the service’s fleet as an “anchor holding back the Air Force,” adding that the service “has to get rid of some of those aircraft so we can free up resources and get on with modernization.” The USAF was downgraded from “marginal” to “weak” in the Heritage Foundation’s annual index of U.S. military strength for 2022. The Heritage Foundation index found that the Air Force’s modernization programs, while “healthy,” are struggling to keep pace with the service’s rapidly aging inventory."

    • "Such is the resurgence of the A-10, that a new Common Fleet Initiative is planned to keep the type in service and credible out towards 2035.
Central to the upgrades for the A-10 is the need to be survivable in a contested environment.
This involves Warthog pilots evading threats through the additional use of standoff weapons from longer ranges, combined with the use of updated tactics.
A-10 operations will evolve to include the ability to tackle some threats with precision weapons from extended ranges.
Once these threats are destroyed, the A-10s will then theoretically be able to swing into more traditional missions."

      ...

"Together, this host of capability upgrades will keep the A-10 at the forefront of the USAF CAS mission for at least another decade, and likely substantially longer.
A lot will depend on whether or not the USAF decides to mount another attack on the Thunderbolt II fleet, but with new investments being made to recapitalize the A-10 force
and with reduced interest in a successor or new Light Attack platform, all indications are that the A-10 will not be going away anytime soon."

More details on the planed upgrades in the article.

    • Modern IADs and Aircraft can target aircraft for 100s of miles thus why the use of drones / stealth aircraft. its not 1970 anymore.

If US were to be active in Ukraine the A10s would be useless due to Russias S400 systems. Which can even target stealth aircraft at 20 miles but non stealth up to 400 KM 240 miles.

And yet, these vaunted Rooski's are unable to take out the Ukrainian Air Force.

"Ten weeks into Russia’s wider war on Ukraine, Kyiv’s tiny, aging air force is in much better shape than anyone should have expected prior to the invasion."
      ...
"The Ukrainian air force began the war with around 125 operational fixed-wing warplanes, ..."
      ...
"All are more than 30 years old and only a few have gotten significant upgrades.
      The Su-27s and MiG-29s lack modern fire-and-forget air-to-air missiles.
The Su-24s and Su-25s carry only unguided rockets and bombs.
But the Russian air force, despite having hundreds of new fighters and, in theory, access to modern guided munitions, has failed to gain control of the air over Ukraine.
Chalk it up in equal measures to Russian incompetence and heroic Ukrainian resistance"
