    • Australia is naval forces country. Build huge navy and it will make you happy :)

Carrier can be build in mostly scenarios on day 30-35 earliest , till this date all real competitions will be finished already.
In current game's reality carrier is just big, expensive, late game toy. Here are very, very few scenarios, where carriers building may really bring some practice benefit.

Frigates in early game, 3-4 fleets x 5 pcs of them. Then you may mix frigates with destroyers in middle game and have 5-6 multipurpose fleets. Both technology need develop as fast as possible to have 100 km firing vessels earliest. Trust me, such forces may crush lot of opponents, especially in current time, after nerf of ASW choppers.

Also for Australia, do I need to capture the small island early on in the game for aircraft use?
Also are destroyers or corvettes better, or should I stack both together?

    • @Stanley_C wouldnt bother with corvetts at all unless is some niche situations.
For navy destroyers and frigs are a nice combo, but early on (until like day 15) i‘d focus only on teching up frigs since theyre cheaper to produce and having the range advantage is pretty significant in navy battles

i wouldnt bother with aircraft early on when youre running an island nation since your biggest weakness and strenght are ships

      Thanks for all your help
How do have a naval unit guard a infantry transport unit when assaulting a harbor?
Second, which (relatively weak)countries should I attack first as Australia for a tactical advantage?
      1. I don't really know what you mean with that, you can stack navy with transports to escort them and bomb the harbor with ships to clear it out
      2. Imo the countries surrounding you are all pretty decent tho you have to keep in mind that they will probably go for navy too
and keep in mind that New Zealand exists, its easily overlooked

Sorry for the large amount of questions. This is the last one. Should I research aircraft carriers, or are they useless units for niche purposes?
Researching Aircraftcarriers is something I'd consider mid or lategame, when you want to start focussing on invading landbased countries
notice that while they have a pretty low capacity of their own you can stack them to stack their capacity
I'd use them mainly with choppers

      1) playing for Australia with mighty navy you are sea king :), so all near island counties are you potential target, means you navy may bombard every city and land in such countries. So New Zealand, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, both Korea are you potential targets. Of course you need check and see who is active , alliance details and etc before invading.
      2) You no need carriers. Actually you no need air units very very long time at all.

Friggettes are best bang for the buck. Can be built with Navy base 2 and cheaper than destroyers with far better anti air. Stack 3 or 4 and can hold own against detroyers and cruiser with better anti air. also really just fell in love with Navy officer last few games. research is cheap to get to lvl 3 or 4 and stack with 2 friggettes and you can take on almost anything. Can go wreck coastal cities and have enough air defense to take out most air. only thing that can really hurt is large stacks of attack choppers. Plus can launch missiles and detect /hunt subs

Corvettes are pretty useless except for sinking transports. cant really go into deep water plus they take up a lot of supplies versus components.

wrong, they only have 20hp and deal less dmg than cruisers/destroyers.... thats why you usually pair frigs and destroyers

They're useful for getting naval superiority early one, if two countries go for navy, the one having corvetts out earlier will win
and considering the rest of your navy consumes tons of components they're pretty cheap alternative to for intercepting transports without taking away resources for frigs/destroyers
