IMHO the aircraft carrier seems kinda situational at best. Very expensive and can get wrecked easily by other warships/subs. Furthermore planes do not perform very well vs ships. Am I missing something with carriers?
Carriers seem kinda meh

Well its great for natios that go fo a full navyI am The Baseline for opinions

They're good for staging an invasion in an area where you wouldn't normally be able to employ planes, which i guess is situational and really meh but completely neccessary in some situations
-
The Naval AWACS deserves a spot on this list
-
Yeah, the naval AWAC can't spot subs, so it kind of feels pointless.
There aren't hat many stealth ships, to make it worthwhile otherwise.
The carrier is an airport, that can't be wrecked by spies -
I agree carrier can be good if invading somewhere a long way away like across the Pacific Ocean.
For me its partly the opportunity cost that makes a carrier not seem worthwhile. By the time I have researched them and built a level 5 shipyard, then make the air wing, its ends up a huge amount of resources that could have gone on a seriously large amount of other units. -
Carriers only make sense if you have a nation like New Zealand, Australia or may be the USA. One of the best unit for recon is the helicopter officer, he can also spot subs if he is upgraded.„Morgen, ihr Luschen!“ --- „Morgen, Chef!“ (Ausbilder Schmidt alias Holger Müller bei der Arbeit)

for myself i rarely use tha carriers but they are not completely useless.
If I use them, then to cross large ocean distances and provide chopper support.
you don´t have to wait fort the airfield to be built,...
Works best if you stack 2 Carriers to be able to carry a 5 stack of choppers + some asw helis
don´t forget to stack up with frigates for missile or aistrikes,...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

cost/effect = pointless. Rarely, very rarely useful, but not needed really - the same tasks can be done much cheaper with other unis. Especially since ASW helis were nerfed (and that's very good thing!) - for some time carriers + ASW were OP navy killers. They can still perform that role, but again: cost/effect and especially time, not much efficient unless it's really long map where even tactical advantage could change course of action.

I like carriers because I don't have to worry about someone nuking my airfield and I can keep it moving to avoid them zeroing in on the position. The fact that people can see the airfield you are operating from when you attack with air units often leads to no more airfield. Also, I can stage different capability based on the situation at hand: fixed wing or helos. It is expensive, but I like a strong navy so I will often build carriers.

In my recent game I saw someone just dump all resource to spam CV...
I have no idea how effective it is but he use it as metal shield to be the tank role in his navy stack.
lmao he don't even research any aircraft. This post was made by Leader of the Church of ROAD -
Carrier just a meatshield? Hardly worth it. The combat stats of a carrier are pretty low and for being meatshield alone it is to expensive.
-
In one of my games, i used an aircraft carrier to completely decimate my enemies' homeland cities between nuclear/conventional cruise missiles and regular bombing from naval strike fighters. I agree that they are situational, but when that situation comes they are the best thing you can have.
-
but the carrier alone is vulnerable.
frigates are cheaper and deal with everything a carrier can throw. (helicopters,.. hmm maybe not that good, but not that bad)
so much of the costs of a carrier group comes from the escorts,...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

that's true but you should have a large navy regardless in my opinion

By the way : where is our LHD class vessels ?)
Regarding currently existed carrier, as many times written above, it has very specific usage.
1) Its very good for "full navy" countries Australia and New Zealand (no more existed), of course together with frigates and other ships later
- in early/middle game low lvl carrier with 4 places is really very comfortable for scouting and strikes little bit further then frigates fire distance. Of course choppers, couple of ASW for scouting and assistance against enemies navy + couple of any other coppers (new elite is very good here)
- in middle game its good to accompany main fleet in first "surprise" attack against enemy alliance countries, vulnerable from sea.
for example against UK, Sweden , Norway and etc. Same style, mainly to gather information and separate units killing. May use 2 low lvl carriers in single order + choppers. Elite choppers, officer, ASW are good
2) For all other countries carriers are inefficient at all -
LHD currently does not work, because they currently are not able to make a distinction between helicopter landing and naval aircraft landing.
The core issues with carriers is, you normally need to people to use them properly:
1) goes full navy an play escort
2) goes full choppers and builds carriers -
LHD is on the "wanna have" list, but as everybody knew,... mobile first~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For the cost of the ressources you have spend for carriers you coudl have put 2 TDS into every city and never worry about nukes again.@Dorado If you Close the Forum and move everything to Discord you will lose my Feedback for sure. The post was edited 2 times, last by kurtvonstein ().

the problem on the eirfields is not the vulnerability to nukes, but to spies,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
