I've already missclicked this button twice, and every time it happens gold is wasted. Simply having a confirmation dialog would fix the problem.

Indeed; I know I and many others would definitely appreciate this feature, especially when there’s a a high and abrupt increase in server or computer latency.

especially in intelligence.

The devs do not want to add a confirmation dialogue: "Ain't ever gonna happen."
See link: Putting a toggleable confirmation for gold purchases -
I believe he is referring to a confirmation dialogue applied to utilizing gold to accelerate mobilization, not the purchase of the gold itself.

So, I've checked out the links posted by @OneRandomPlayer, followed the instructions by Germanico, and found the explanation for it:
Germanico wrote:
Rule 1 of F2P games: make it as easy as possible for your users to spend money: you need to understand we have players who literally hit the "spend gold" button 25x or more. Deliberately.
Real Life Comparison: how many of you are annoyed when being asked at a cash register in the supermarket if you "have a savers card or xyz" ? I certainly get impatient if I cannot simply pay.
Now multiply these numbers and figure it out. That's actually why most f2p games do not include a "gold safety warning" - we are catering to the convenience of heavy payers who keep our games running.
Just being honest here.

But there's a way of implementing such feature without hurting paying customers: simply add an optional setting on a user basis, like a "Disable Gold Usage" or a "Confirmation Before Using Gold" checkbox that, when turned on, would trigger such confirmation dialogs or disable gold usage whatsoever. Of course the default value of the checkbox would be FALSE, therefore not hurting paying customers.
