    • Submarines? Or destroyers.

So its day 14 for me in a game as india. I'm looking to expand on a navy, and have recently annexed bangladesh. Now i dont have much in terms of a navy, just level 2 frigs and 4 corvettes. Should i go for attack submarines? Or should i stick to destroyers. I'm pretty confident in my production power, but attack subs seem a bit costly for electronics... thoughts? sry if i sound like i'm rambling on btw.
    • For me, it depends on how I intend to use them. I use destroyers more for active offense/defense and attack subs more for passive defense. I like to have a web of attack subs that extend out from my ports in layer upon layer. For one thing, I'm not letting in any unescorted enemy troop transports. For another thing, even if my enemy does bring a ship/task force with him to take out one of my waiting subs, I now know he's on his way in while he's still a distance out to sea. I hate the "home port pop-in".

"*crickets, crickets, crickets* YOUR COASTAL CITY IS UNDER MASSIVE ATTACK!!" No, thank you.

That being said, Destroyers are easily the more versatile vessel. Neither of those vessels is good against air attacks, but other than that, Destroyers are a pretty strong unit. Subs trade that strength for stealh, and there's just not as many significant naval situations that require stealth as there are ones that require firepower and hit points.
    • this depends on a lot of your reasearch here lets say you have good missile reasearch and you are choosing between the ballistic missile sub or the destroyer you would want to go with the ballistic missile sub because they can destroy destroyers as long as you fire the missile at the right time but if you dont have any missile reasearch nothing like that destroyers always come out on top

Correct, but even though I wasn't being specific in every response, I was referring to the original poster's question about their Day 14 circumstances and whether or not to begin developing attack subs or destroyers.
    • Attack Subs are deadly in high seas and the most deadly naval unit against other naval unit. However, Destroyers can be used in shallow water and be used in coastal city bombardment. So the tradeoff is clear.

High sea naval domination, Attack Subs.

Moderate naval domination but the option to bombard coastal cities and defend in coastal waters, Destroyers.

Attack subs are good in long wars as they heal very fast in shallow water, however, they cannot be used to clear ships in shallow water whereas destroyers can.

So its up to you to weigh up what your needs are.
    • attack subs suck as soon as the other guy has some sonar and they’re also slower then destroyers in high seas
so they lack the „speed“ component which is pretty critical when it comes to both players being active
destroyers are by far the most versatile naval unit
the only downside of destroyers is that they alone aren’t enough if the enemy has more than 3 braincells (which tbh is rarely the case)

big upside of subs (which imo is often overlooked) is that they can’t be targeted by cms
but they also cost rare material to build
so they aren’t really a viable option early on

    • gave up on attack subs as 90 pct of naval battles occur near shore and you are cutting strength in half. only value is CM's but have to get to close to use them. unless you just happen to run into someone in high seas battles occur either while defending / attacking a country for the most part.

Only game used extensively was rising tides and used more just to pair 1 sub with a stack (most out in dep water at Vic tory sites) to detect oncoming subs and launch CM's.

Someone said sub as a Naval scout?? Better off with naval choppers or patrol. choppers useful to scout the intesect point/ shipping lanes 400-500 miles out. build like 4 - 5 and can cover a big area then can swarm all them at a sub or ship.
