Hrm I'm late. Ah well. Not as if anybody really cares.
Day 1:
1. Research. As with most countries, Mot. Inf and ASF can't go wrong. Corvettes are an alternative if you like Frigates. AFVs are cool too, otherwise you should be staying like this.
2. Buildings. When doing sim city, each city must always produce something, and that unit only. Specialisation. Anyways, Australia has 7 cities, so 3 army bases is a good idea. (I generally go with Alice Springs, Brisbane and Perth.) Afterwards Arms Industry everything else.
3. Diplomacy. Just like US, Australia has two potential enemies. However, unlike US, Indonesia can actually go toe-to-toe with you as it has nearly as many cities. Send out peace treaties to New Zealand and Indonesia.
So the options:
1. Indonesia accepts but New Zealand does not
2. New Zealand accepts but Indonesia does not
3. Both reject
4. Both accept
1. In this case, make sure that Indonesia really doesn't want to attack you, then take your Darwin and Derby units and send them to Wellington. With any luck, you should be able to defeat the units there, or if you are really lucky, they won't be there at all. Sending the Brisbane, Perth and Alice Springs units won't be a bad idea as well. Alternatively, you could use the latter group to reinforce Sydney and Brisbane if you're sure that NZ is invading. Once you have established a beachhead, grab NZ territory. The fight should be over soon.
2. Ok, so this is really tricky. Indonesia is even with you, and attacking first isn't good. In this case, you must get NZ to ally with you, otherwise you stand no chance. If he rejects, then you can attempt to ask Philipines for help, but you're in really deep trouble anyways. You can quit if NZ doesn't play ally.
If he did accept, start the research of Marine Infantry (Mot. Inf should be done by then), after which there are two ways to go:
First, you can ask NZ to defend your homeland cities for you. This is really not nice.
Preferably, Ask NZ to launch assaults on his cities. Send Sydney, Brisbane and Perth troops to reinforce Darwin and Derby, and hope that NZ can kill Indonesia before the latter can really get into your homeland. Once his assaults are repelled, launch your own attacks on his homeland cities. With both of you, Indonesia stands no chance, and it'll be over after a hard slog. By then though, it's a bit impossible to continue sim city as you would be the target of neighbouring countries. Fighting Indonesia is ridiculously risky and there is a large chance he will kill you, so try not to enter a confrontation.
Note that if Indonesia does not respond, you should grab Papua New Guinea and start producing troops as fast as you can.
3. Just quit. You stand as little chance as you did against Indonesia without NZ, except this time it's a thousand times worse.
EDIT: an alternative method of surviving as proposed by MrBookShelf is to spam corvettes, building Naval Bases and Arms Industries in every city. By creating ships as early as possible, your cities should be closed off to all invaders, buying time for you to invade and kill New Zealand before attacking Indonesia.
4. This is really cool. You can now sim city!
Try to get into a coalition, either a Indonesia + New Zealand + Philipines + Thailand, or a US + Canada + Mexico + South American country coalition, or any variation. Basically South East Asian or North American.
Australia is a bit interesting as you have to diversify a bit due to it's size.
Recommended buildings:
Sydney: Air Base lv. 1 + Arms Industry
Brisbane: Army Base lv. 2 + Arms Industry
Townsville: Naval Base lv. 3 + Arms Industry
Alice Springs: Army Base lv. 2 + Air Base lv. 1 + Arms Industry
Darwin and Derby each: Army Base lv. 2 + Naval Base lv. 3 (+ Air Base lv. 1) (+ Recruiting Office lv. 1) + Arms Industry
Perth: Army Base lv. 2 + Arms Industry
EDIT: as said by DealerOfDeath, Alice Springs' good central location allows you to quickly deploy reinforcements to any part of the country, making it a good strategic location. Late-game, this would also make a good location to relocate headquarters to.
Potential research options:
- AFV. Nice armor that gains a boost in Western Doctrine, and arguably the best armor.
- Destroyer. Good to defend borders.
Other research options:
- Attack Helicopter. Boost in Western Doctrine.
- Frigates. Alternative to Destroyer.
- Strike Fighter. Alternative to Attack Helicopter. Keep in mind it's Western Doctrine nerf.
- Naval Infantry. A must if you're fighting Indonesia.
That's t! Any comments or suggestions?

Instead of choosing wings to fly, we chose hands to hold with each other.
Yet the sky still fascinates us, is it such a crime to keep on dreaming?
