Currently air assaulting seems like a very risky and unwise choice. This is because they are very slow and can be seen at least 1 hour before they drop in, and take another hour to deploy. Though, the speed and deploy time are realistic and balanced. The main problem is that unlike your helicopter gunships and attack helicopters, air superiority fighters cannot escort your air mobile infantry. This makes them very easy to shoot down and not worth the risk at all.
With the Security Council Membership, you should be given an escort feature, or possibly just an already in game ability. This will be helpful for you allies and protecting their convoys. You can escort your own convoys by merging them with your destroyers/cruisers. However, you cannot do this with your allies convoys. If we were given an escort feature we would be able to protect our allies convoys, keeping at the same speed. I personally join coalitions to provide specific roles for each member. Some go for more air force, others for more ground. Though, because you cannot escort you allies convoys, everyone is required to get a navy, which is a serious pain. This new feature would allow only half of the coalition to need a navy and still be assured of the safety of their allies.
Along with this, an escort feature would play a very good role in air assaults and air lifts. There is no way currently to protect those units unless you are online all the way through to keep you air force next to your choppers and transport planes.

I'm guessing this will get shot down. Why? I've learned that you have to consider all your suggestions with the idea firmly in mind "How will this affect Dorado's bottom line?" meaning, will it impact their making of money (and continuing existence via their business model)?

So I'm gonna say this is probably a "NO" because they want everyone to build their own navy and buy gold so that they can afford to do so.

Well at least escorting your air assaulting units and your transport planes
I can see the "escorting of transport planes" I would like that, and I would think it would be really easy to effect since both fighter/transport planes would be going from airbase to airbase, but I think it would be more problematic in the "escorting assaulting units" as the units land and deploy, but the escorting fighter doesn't/can't. I would imagine that would be a much bigger coding job if even possible. And it even seems a bit wrong. I just don't see multibillion dollar jet squadrons escorting airborne troops. Clearing the way for, yes, but as escorts? Nah.

Well, they could maybe only escort aircraft, so as soon as the air assaulting unit becomes a ground unit again. The fighter goes idle and patrols wherever they are.
Well, yeah, I kinda figured that, I was just thinking from a programming standpoint.
